During the 40 minutes of the driving test, you will be asked to do around 10 minutes of driving independently. The examiner will ask you to do one, or a combination, of the following methods:
1. Road Signs – for example, the examiner may ask say ‘Follow signs for Ipswich until I tell you otherwise.’
2. A series of verbal directions (normally 3 at a time, sometimes 4). For example, ‘Turn left at the traffic lights, straight ahead at the roundabout then the first road on the right’.
The examiner may also show you a diagram highlighting the basics of the route that you’ll follow.
The thing to remember is that this isn’t testing your navigation skills, only your ability to drive independently. If you take a wrong turning, don’t worry, so long as it’s done safely you won’t get marked down for it.
